This belt drive kit is basically identical to the great working regular BDL 3" open electric start kits. The difference is in the BDL outboard bearing support system, for improved strength and rigidity. Comes with the BDL ball bearing lock-up clutch and a 72-47 drive ratio. Note: On 86-88 Softail models, that originally are equipped with the old style 'separate solenoid' starter, modifications are necessary. Polished finish. 70-78 Shovelhead This 3" electric start belt drive is designed to be used on 70-78 Shovelhead models with the ratchet top type 4-speed transmission, with rear chain only. Modifications are necessary to install this kit. Amongst others: When fitted to FX models, the oil tank bracket must be cut to allow proper fitment of the starter. On FL models this modification is not necessary. On both FL, FX models a L79-86 clutch arm (MCS 516400, OEM 37054-79A) must be used. Some clearancing work on this arm is needed.
