You will have no issues when converting your current incandescent bulb with LED. Due to the lower current draw LED turn signals will require a load equalizer, turn signal stabilizer or a special LED functional turn signal relay to keep a correct flash rate. Current draw? LEDs require much less energy to function than incandescent light bulbs. This means less drain on your electrical system, a positive effect when you're one of the 'very bright' guys or gals. Single or dual intensity LEDs? Regular light bulbs come with a filament. That is a thin wire which heats up and thus provides light. In a brake light two independent wires are used, dual filament, one for the taillight the other for the brake light. A turn signal usually comes equipped with a single filament, sometimes with a dual filament for run/turn function. When using LEDs the dual filament function is simulated by sending a higher/lower current to the LEDs, to emit more or less light. This is called 'dual intensity'. Dual Intensity LEDs will have 3 wires, of which one is for ground. A combination of amber & red colored LEDs on one board gives even more possibilities, like run/brake/turn functionality in to one light unit. With the correct module for a specific application LEDs can give a wide variety of functions up to, and including, sequential and a variety of strobe functions. Dual Function Converter The Custom Dynamics TruFLEX® Dual Function Converter is a device that converts single intensity (2wire) LEDs to dual intensity (3-wire). This way LEDs can be used with in a low (dim light) like taillight, or with a high (bright light) like brake light or turn signal application. They are available in 5 variations that will handle from 5 to 160 LEDs. Dual Function / Dual Color Converter The TruFLEX® Dual Intensity / Dual Color Converter is required for Dual Intensity function in combination with Dual Color TruFLEX® LED strips. One dual converter is required for each LED strip. Red wire is connected to red LEDs (brake & taillight), amber wire is connected to amber LEDs (turn signal). Amber has have priority over red, when both are activated like brake activated with turn signal on. LED turn signals? If you want to convert your regular turn signals to LEDs you have two major options. Turn Signal sets: Complete LED turn signals sets. Ready to install and complete with a LED board installed. A load equalizer is required. Turn Signal Inserts: Will let you install a LED board inside your stock turn signal housing. Basically Plug & Play, with the same connector as found on the bottom side of the incandescent light bulb you are replacing. A load equalizer is required. Longevity? The life expectancy of LEDs is much better than that of incandescent light bulbs. Vibration resistancy is much better as well, a good thing on a big American V-Twin. Load Equalizers LED technology draws less amperage than the old fashioned bulbs you may be replacing. If this is the case, note that the turn signal relay works with a bi-metal and require a specific current draw to function properly. A load equalizer is used to draw the same load as incandescent bulbs so your turn signals will not flash too fast, or sometimes refuse to flash at all, when converting to LED turn signals. The Custom Dynamics 'Turn Signal Stabilizer' is not a regular resistor load equalizer, that draws current & develops heat, but uses a 'coil technology' to get the same result without drawing additional current or developing heat. Load equalizers are available in abundance, some universal, some models specific. Especially for later H-D models, equipped with a factory alarm or security system, a model specific load equalizer / Turn Signal Stabilizer is required. CAN-bus models come with a BCM (Body Control Module).
