This is done by lifting the exhaust valve slightly of its seat, with a spring loaded compression release lobe inside the camshaft. After starting the compression release lobe is retracted by centrifugal force. The difference The only difference is during starting since you will now be able to electric start your Big Inch engine effortless, without the use of big batteries and/or starter motors. A stock starter and battery is enough. The same When the engine is running the camshafts function as regular cams, without any loss in power, torque or anything else. S&S EASY START CAMS Easy Start cams reduce cranking compression, only during starting. Designed by S&S to overcome the sometimes troublesome starting of big inch, high compression engines. Note: Required installation kits for Easy Start Cams are included in complete (IOG) kits only. They are separately available from S&S as 503566 (early models) and 531268 (late models) for gear drive models only. Note: Not compatible with kick start models. Good for 07-16 96" to 106" Touring models in combination with slip-on mufflers, high flow air filter and 9:1 to 10:1 compression. Pulls from idle to 4000 RPM. 583 Midrange cam Good for all Twin Cam models in combination with slip-on mufflers and a high flow air filter. Pulls from 1500 to 5000 RPM. 585 Top-end cam Good for 06-up 96" to 106" Twin Cam in combination with slip-on mufflers, high flow airfilter and a 9:1 to 10.5:1 compression. Pulls from 3000 to 6000 RPM. Top: Shows start mode of the cams, a spring keeps the compression release lobe notch in place. Bottom: Shows running mode. No more hard starting & full power during riding Application recommendations: 551G: Bolt-in torque for stock 96" Touring bikes. Strongest cam from idle to 4000 RPM for 96" to 106". Not recommended for 10:1 or higher CR 570G: Bolt-in 88" to 103" with 9:1 to 10:1 CR. 32005700 RPM overall power increase HP103: Bolt-in for stock 103" engines with stock 9.7:1CR up to 10.5:1CR. Works well with unported heads and great for S&S CNC ported heads. Best power in the higher RPM range. 3000-6000 RPM 583C: Bolt-in. 88 to 103" engines with compression ratios between 9.7:1 to 10.5:1 and 106" to 124" engines with 9:1 to 10:1 CR.
