This is to prevent an excessive loose fit issue in the tappet roller body. A technique called 'Swipe Honing', which is actually no more than marginally sanding down the outside diameter of the hydraulic unit assembly with a very fine grid sandpaper, to get a perfect zero tolerance fit. A snug fit will prevent the hydraulic unit assembly from rocking in the tappet assembly body, thus preventing excessive clicking noise, wear and possible premature failure of components.
